A small note if you are worried about the future.

We all are! Whether we are parents or not, whether we have children with extra needs or not, or even just about our carers, friends, family and life in general. Every one of us will have anxieties about the future in some way or another.

Sometimes I do worry about Serenity and if she will need 24/7 care when she’s older, or If I will be well enough to look after her or if she will need to go in accommodation, or even if she can live independently. I do worry about this because I want her to be well and have the best life, but I also have my own goals too in terms of carer and later life. Sometimes I feel selfish saying that but no matter the commitments we have, we always still have our own goals we want to achieve.

I look on the PWSA website often, and they do activities on there you can join. They often have a lot of adults on there with PWS. This gives me hope for the future because no matter what their individual health and circumstances are, they always look so incredibly happy, and I think at the bottom line, that’s all that matters.

Whenever I talk about Serenity and when I’m with her, she makes me happiest of all. So despite my own goals and individual needs, happiness is all that matters and my little girl is my happiness. Sometimes it gets stressful and overwhelming, but she is okay and there isn’t any challenges we can’t face together.

So in terms of being worried about the future, we all are about everything anyway, and I’m just learning to live with an ‘it is what it is’ mindset. If Serenity does need 24/7 care then I’ll be able and be strong enough to work that out at the time. We cannot live in the future because we miss out on what’s important now!

I think it’s important to take care of yourself now so you can have the best future together. Take PWS as an incentive to adapt your own meals to be more healthy. I have started to work on my own lifestyle so I can live longer and be healthier in my older years.

There are always options no matter what the circumstances are, its best to only focus on the present moment, as that’s all that matters.
